Dear Students and Parents,

The COVID-19 outbreak requires the Debate Institutes at Dartmouth to move to an entirely online format for the summer of 2020. Though Dartmouth College has not yet made an official decision about summer facilities, we cannot guarantee access to campus or a safe and healthy stay in Hanover.

As explained in our March 23rd email update, we have been planning for the eventuality of an online DDI and we are confident we will offer a high-quality online camp experience. Our excellent teaching staff has always been the hallmark of the DDI experience and students will continue to benefit from individualized feedback and instruction. We are already at work applying the lessons of this term’s distance learning environment to our camp format.

We envision a daily schedule of 6-8 hours of instructional time, modelled on in-person camp. We will combine synchronous lab time and asynchronous content to supplement the lab experience. We plan to release a full schedule when possible, but we ask for your patience to ensure the best possible implementation of distance learning.

The dates for our programs will remain the same.

Tuition for our programs will be reduced by 50%:
-2 week programs (DDIx, Parliamentary, Public Forum, and Fundamentals): $1,200
-DDI 4 weeks: $2,475
-6 week: $3,175

Full refunds including the tuition deposit will be offered until May 15th. All tuition payments already made for greater than the new tuition cost will be refunded as soon as possible. Existing tuition deposits will otherwise be applied to the revised tuition cost. If you do not plan to attend online camp, we would like to know as soon as possible to make space available for others.

Students will require consistent access to an internet connection and computer that can support video-conferencing. A video-conferencing software subscription will not be required. We will provide additional technical suggestions prior to camp.

Though we will miss seeing students in Hanover, we look forward to meeting you online.

Sincerely,
John Turner
Director – Debate Institutes at Dartmouth
